After surpassing 150 free channels earlier this year, Google TV is wrapping up 2024 with another batch of additions, many arriving just in time for the holiday season.
Google TV Freeplay lets users instantly stream live channels for free (ad-supported) when they set up a new Google TV device. However, this feature is currently only available in the US, as these channels aren’t accessible in other regions. Initially launching with about 80 channels, Google has been steadily expanding the library.
Throughout 2024, Google added around 50 new channels, bringing the total to just under 160 as of November.
Google has added even more channels to Freeplay, introducing over a dozen new options. While the first two channels listed below were added back in November, the rest were added within the past week or so.
- Continuum
- UFC
- Xumo Free Holiday Movie Channel
- Xumo Free Holiday Classics
- Xumo Christian Christmas
- Best of Dr Phil
- Z Nation
- PursuitUP
- The Design Network
- Filmrise: Classic TV
- Designated Survivor
- Unbeaten
- Waypoint TV
- Places & Spaces – The Great Christmas Light Fight
- Big 12 Studios
We believe the holiday channels might be temporary, but as of now, Google TV Freeplay offers a total of 171 free channels.
That said, Google TV has removed one car-focused channel from its lineup:
MotorTrend Fast TV
Beyond Freeplay, there are now over 1,100 free channels available when factoring in Google’s partners like Plex, Pluto TV, and others. However, these additional channels require separate app downloads.
Meanwhile, the updated Freeplay app for Google TV is still missing from many devices after the update was rolled back (except for the Google TV Streamer) due to a crashing issue, which we first reported in early November.
