Valve, the popular gaming platform, has announced that it will no longer support Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 from January 1, 2024. The reason for this change is due to Steam’s reliance on an embedded version of Google Chrome, which is incompatible with older versions of Windows. Additionally, future versions of Steam will require feature and security updates that are only available on Windows 10.
The good news is that upgrading to Windows 10 is free for users with prior installed versions. However, Windows 11 has already been released to most customers, but some devices may not meet the system requirements, which include 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage space, and TPM 2.0 support.
Valve has also confirmed that a more powerful Steam Deck is not expected to arrive for several years. Nevertheless, the company is still committed to the platform, which has proven to be very popular with PC gamers.
