Ubisoft says the ninja in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be the fastest assassin they’ve ever unleashed on unsuspecting guards and mission targets in their historical fantasy world.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jonathan Dumont, creative director of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, revealed, “Naoe’s the fastest Assassin we’ve ever made.” He added, “She runs super fast and has a lot of gadgets to stay stealthy, so she doesn’t have to fight often. We wanted to cater to players looking for that ninja-Assassin experience.”

Dumont also teased that Naoe’s running style will have a lean-forward, arms-back look reminiscent of the iconic “Naruto run” from the popular anime.

The game will feature two playable characters: Yasuke, a close-combat samurai brawler inspired by a real historical figure, designed to feel like the warriors from recent Assassin’s Creed games; and Naoe, a fictional character more in line with the series’ classic assassins—skilled at staying hidden but vulnerable when outnumbered.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to release on February 14, 2025, taking place during Japan’s Sengoku (“Warring States”) period. Fans of Ubisoft’s classic stealth games, like Splinter Cell, will be thrilled to hear that Shadows will let you hide in shadowed areas and extinguish lights to stay unseen, marking a return to true stealth gameplay.

If the February release date seems unusual for such a big title, it’s because the game was delayed slightly. Plus, 2025 is already shaping up to be a huge year for gaming packed with major releases.
